So the question goes what should i do to get it right, just how does this work? I believe that there are 5 ways you should go if you are going to achieve success with your businesses social marketing and these are;
1 – Target the right group of people
Surely this is a simple plan, make sure your audience is correct for what you are and who you are trying to be, simple you may think but loads of people and businesses get it wrong. Take Gordon Brown with his well publicised YouTube outing, it was SO targetted at the wrong audience, politicians just aren’t popular anyway but targetting youth culture with YouTube showed, i think a lack of clear understanding and due to the ‘free’ comment nature of YouTube the comments stream was closed as he got so much abuse
2 – Be You
At the end of the day this is all about being honest and in particular a small business has a distinct advantage here as they can show a more personal approach as apposed to a multinational conglomorate, having said that though a personality within that large corporation can speak with a human voice and put a personal slant on what they are.
3 – Always be Professional
You wouldn’t go to a face to face networking meeting and be all slapdash, casual and unprofessional so DONT DO it online, your customers and interested people are all watching, dont forget
4 – Dont just Sell
At networking events we dont just go to sell so dont do it here, create a dialogue, engage with all you dont knwo where it will lead and remember many users will see this as another way to engage you as if they met you in your premises so respond quickly and politlely.
5 – Be Regular
There is nothing worse than slow, irregular and inconsistent posts, you need to update on regular basis -set aside time and do it right and remember you are in it for long run
So there you go the 5 ways to get it right, of course you can go into more detail on each but start with these are you won’t go far wrong.
