If you like this article why not subscribe to my RSS feed.
What is [tag]RSS[/tag]? One of the questions that I am often asked is what is RSS so I have a post here to define RSS and hopefully shed some light on the topic.
We have a number of ways that you can subscribe to this site and receive updates. The main one that our readers use is our RSS feed. But what is RSS?
What is RSS?
RSS is a technology that is used by millions of web users to keep track of updates of their favourite websites.
In the ‘old days’ of the web to keep track of updates on a website you had to ‘bookmark’ – now add to favourites any websites in your browser that you liked and then click on the link to return back to see the site to see if they have changed.
The problems with bookmarking/add to favourites
• You as the web surfer had to do all the work
• It can get complicated when you are trying to track many websites at once
• You miss information when you forget to check your bookmarks
• You end up seeing the same information over and over again on sites that don’t update very often
RSS Changes all this
You can now get a website to let you know every time it updates? this is what RSS does for you.
RSS stands for ‘[tag]Really Simple Syndication[/tag]’. Many people describe it as a ‘news feed’ that you subscribe to.
RSS changes things considerably as it gives you the user a very easy way of getting relevant and up to date information sent to you for you to read whenever you want. It saves you time and helps you to get the information you want quickly after it was published.
