Hello there! If you are new here why not subscribe to my RSS feed for updates on this and other topics.
On Exeter High Street is a building that i bet like me you have walked passed on numerous times without giving it a second glance. Well across from Currys Digital and next door to House of Fraser is St Stephen’s a 1000 year old consecrated space, and yes it really is that old. A building that has been at the heart of Exeter for 1000 years i think it quite an achievement.

St Stephens Exeter
So i guess you ask what has that got to do with me, well firstly its worth mentioning that St Stephen’s has been a beacon of continuity in an ever-changing world for about 1000 years – including being the only building in this part of Exeter to survive the ‘blitz’ in 1942. An average of 70 community and charitable groups each year make use of the facilities as well as a regular Sunday service.
The building now needs our help to continue to provide access to all and be here for the next 1000 years, a very valid aim if you ask me. The project relies on public donations and support;
‘Our vision is a building which is truly accessible to all and which will have a future as long as its past’
So next time you walk past why not put some loose change in their collection box or make a donation online.We can all then take pride in renewing the life of one of Exeter’s oldest buildings.
