I love the Dawlish Airshow, i think it the best free event in Devon and its as simple as that. With helicopters flying in the morning and the actual show in the afternoon i think its great.
I have already blogged on The Devon Air Ambulance at the show.
So lets start with the morning helicopters, they flew into 2 sites, 1 at Dawlish Warren and 1 at Sumgglers Cove and were on site for all to look around, kids to sit on take static picture of etc.
The Airshow itself kicked off at 1.30pm with a sterling display from a Hunter then a Beechcraft we then moved onto the KC135 that alwasy looks impressive, not a small turning circle though using all the bay to go around.
With a few helicopter displays from a great Wasp and Sea King and lifeboat demonstration we awaited the highlight – for me anyway.
At 3.45pm on the dot the waiting thousands of people were not dissapointed when the Red Arrows made their appearance and the show they put on was simply stunning. The display itself was the usual high standard and was breath taking in style and passion, a delight in what was increasingly overcast conditions.
They performed for maybe 20 minutes and then had a break, in the distance we saw the Red Arrows form up with, the Vulcan. I have to confess the major reason i was there and i wasnt dissapointed, for anyone not having seen the Vulcan fly you are missing a treat it is simply awesome. It arrived in formation with the Red Arrows and then performed on its own – brilliant.
So thats the Dawlish Airshow for 2009, i think one of the best free events in Devon, go in 2010 you won’t regret it.
