So picture the scene you are walking along Oxford Street on a Saturday afternoon with its usual collection of shops and with the diversity of people browsing, shopping or just ‘people watching’. Then out of what was a large building now knocked down you pass the white boarding’s with a collection of Fiat pictures on them, I was pushing a pram at the time so wondered what on earth this was?

Well when I had got about half way down I was presented with what I can only describe as the biggest Fiat 500 I have ever seen and what I envisaged a construction site transformed into some kind of inner city park.

What I was witnessing and part of was the Fiat Big Smile festival that was on for 6 days over the August Bank Holiday and visited by I understand over 50,000 people.

The area had been transformed into an oasis of calm on Oxford Street with the already mentioned large Fiat 500, which itself was in interactive viewing experience and a number of life sized Fiat 500’s for you to peruse. Also there was a collection of deck chairs, snack booths, very good landscaping and on hand entertainment.

If Fiat were hoping to make an impression they certainly did, I don’t think anyone would fail to be impressed by the magnitude of the whole event, as brand awareness I think it was brilliant and it really goes to show how you can make a great deal of a great product.
