Like Sue, I always take the humanistic approach with clients because their customers are human too. Essentially this is what emotional intelligence is all about - realising the impact of an individual's behaviour on others, such as sharing their excitement about a sale or understanding the value of an employee's hidden talents. But it's also vital to remember that key to a business relationship is the ability to stay objective - never let an "emotional attachment" be used as an excuse not to make difficult decisions.
